Wednesday AM Forecast: Low Pressure pulls away finally, More unwanted precipitation on the way late week! and St. Patrick's Day Wx
It's another unsettled, raw and chilly start to the day, We have clouds, and light rain in the South such as Yarmouth, we have light snow over Halifax and in the Valley and light rain/snow shower in Sydney.
We also have those gusty winds continuing in the south from the North-West blowing at 20+ knots, up to near 30 knots well off shore. Satellite Infrared shows a line of colder cloud tops ( higher clouds) These do show some signs of weakening, but can't rule out that we could see some heavier precipitation in the Valley's and near Yarmouth this morning.
Conditions SHOULD improve this afternoon!
As the upper level low pressure system finally continues onwards of moving further away offshore, we'll see clearing skies and the snow ending, however there could be some light flurries remaining this evening over Western and Northern NS. A weak area of high pressure settles in here for Tonight and Tomorrow, until our next system moves in.
Our next system.... A very weak trough that will cross over Quebec and New Brunswick with snow will move into Western NS of Cumberland and Colchester counties on Thursday night, near midnight.
There also could be a shower or two over the Halifax Metro near midnight, as this model the RGEM shows. If it does do something, it will be very scattered and isolated and very light, should not mount to much!
By Early morning Friday, around 6AM, That weak trough is over Northern NS bringing snow flurries to Western NS of Cumberland, Colchester and Hants Counties, also over Northern NS in Antigonish, Pictou and Guysborough counties. Could see some rain drops mixing with snow flakes over the Halifax Metro as well. Early morning commute North of Halifax, including the metro will be possibly a little slick! but not to bad.
Notice, to the south that there is another wave of precipitation. That is another weak frontal system, this will bring the CHANCE of some rain showers later on the day Friday.
The RGEM model shows the system staying mostly off, so is the GEM, which is a sister model of the RGEM. There are many models that suggest a more heavier kind of precipitation, The GFS has the system
If heading to the city today, looking at some flurries and/or light snow to start this morning for the morning commute, so give some extra time and caution if on the roads this morning, just in case, because they will be a bit slick out there, especially with winds from the North West at 20 km/h.
Next 3 days in Halifax and the Metro, looking at AM flurries then clearing today, with highs of 4 degrees, we'll warm up to 7 in the metro tomorrow under partial sunshine, and a chance of showers or light rain for now on Friday, with mild temperatures staying around, a high of 6 on Friday.
