Wednesday AM Forecast: Low Pressure pulls away finally, More unwanted precipitation on the way late week! and St. Patrick's Day Wx

It's another unsettled, raw and chilly start to the day, We have clouds, and light rain in the South such as Yarmouth, we have light snow over Halifax and in the Valley and light rain/snow shower in Sydney.

We also have those gusty winds continuing in the south from the North-West blowing at 20+ knots, up to near 30 knots well off shore. Satellite Infrared shows a line of colder cloud tops ( higher clouds) These do show some signs of weakening, but can't rule out that we could see some heavier precipitation in the Valley's and near Yarmouth this morning.

Conditions SHOULD improve this afternoon!

As the upper level low pressure system finally continues onwards of moving further away offshore, we'll see clearing skies and the snow ending, however there could be some light flurries remaining this evening over Western and Northern NS. A weak area of high pressure settles in here for Tonight and Tomorrow, until our next system moves in.

Our next system.... A very weak trough that will cross over Quebec and New Brunswick with snow will move into Western NS of Cumberland and Colchester counties on Thursday night, near midnight.

There also could be a shower or two over the Halifax Metro near midnight, as this model the RGEM shows. If it does do something, it will be very scattered and isolated and very light, should not mount to much!

By Early morning Friday, around 6AM, That weak trough is over Northern NS bringing snow flurries to Western NS of Cumberland, Colchester and Hants Counties, also over Northern NS in Antigonish, Pictou and Guysborough counties. Could see some rain drops mixing with snow flakes over the Halifax Metro as well. Early morning commute North of Halifax, including the metro will be possibly a little slick! but not to bad.

Notice, to the south that there is another wave of precipitation. That is another weak frontal system, this will bring the CHANCE of some rain showers later on the day Friday.

By Noon on Friday, we see the moisture from the next system begin to brush parts of the coast in Yarmouth and Shelburne county with a few showers, main system would still be further off to the West.

By Friday afternoon, the Low Pressure stays well offshore and only glazes Yarmouth and Shelburne with some very light rain.

The RGEM model shows the system staying mostly off, so is the GEM, which is a sister model of the RGEM. There are many models that suggest a more heavier kind of precipitation, The GFS has the system

The GFS model shows some fair steady snowfall by mid day on Friday.

The ECMWF model has the system as a stronger system with rain stretching as far as Halifax Metro.

The GEM model, which is a Canadian model shows the system weak and staying just enough south.

The ICON model shows the system surpassing north of Halifax with precipitation between 3 to 6mm.
The ECMWF model for Friday shows very strong high pressure, with increasing dry air and that high pressure and dry air will determine where and how much precipitation we can get ( if any)
Hope to have more on the Friday system later today and tomorrow.

Forecast highs look consistent from the multiple weather models, we'll see near normal temperatures today in the 4 to 6 range, however with sunshine, and decreasing cloud cover, there is a good chance that someone can make it out of 10 degrees.

If heading to the city today, looking at some flurries and/or light snow to start this morning for the morning commute, so give some extra time and caution if on the roads this morning, just in case, because they will be a bit slick out there, especially with winds from the North West at 20 km/h.
By Noon, We'll see clearing skies, breaking clouds and out comes the sunshine. temperatures by noon reach 3 degrees. winds die down somewhat, still on the breezy side from the North West at 10-13 km/h.
By Supper time and the evening commute home from work, lookin at fairly nice weather! Partial sunshine, some clouds, and turns breezy again! winds North West at 20+ km/h, we'll see highs peak at 3 or 4 degrees in the metro today.

Next 3 days in Halifax and the Metro, looking at AM flurries then clearing today, with highs of 4 degrees, we'll warm up to 7 in the metro tomorrow under partial sunshine, and a chance of showers or light rain for now on Friday, with mild temperatures staying around, a high of 6 on Friday.
Looking at the 7-Day Forecast for Halifax & The Metro, looking at better weather later today into Thursday as High pressure builds in, temperatures wouldn't be surprising if they're higher than these forecast numbers, I might raise the temperatures by a degree or two.
Chance of showers or rain on Friday, then a chance for scattered showers on the weekend including St. Patricks Day Sunday. highs of 5 to 8 degrees, we'll see a chance of some heavier widespread rain on Monday, but mild and windy with highs in the lower 10's, clearing out on Tuesday but stays mild near 7 or 8 degrees.
